Top tips for organising a DIY wedding

In planning a wedding we found a heap of details that would be useful for the next person doing their own DIY wedding. Here are a handful of points:

  • Limit speeches to 4 people and 5 minutes each max, and do them in one go
  • Let guests bring winebottles to each table, on top of water jugs. During speeches you wouldn't want people to get desperate
  • Assigned seating is probably overkill if you have many tables. Long tables you will need them assigned
  • Put a note out to a local community group (on facebook for instance) to find hospo staff to help out for the day. for 100 people 5 is probably ideal for 5 hours. This is absolutely essential in being able to enjoy the day. Clearing plates, changing over water, candles, cleaning up, changing tables etc.
  • Spend plenty of time thinking about seating plans because it gets tricky.
  • Always accomodate for late pull outs and changes
  • With candlelit tables, dim the lights early. It looks way better
  • All your supplies may not communicate much with you, but appreciate over communication (not badgering though). Keep
  • Communication channels are key: day helpers (hello family & wedding party), MCs, phone numbers - make sure all people are connected to someone that IS NOT YOU for the day.

When your table arrangements are set, and you've sent out your invites (joy.com is excellent for managing RSVPs and guest lists for FREE) you will then be able to figure out what the table settings need to be like. You can book all your table settings (cost per setting, not per plate!) from vintageeventhire.com to tick something else off your list
